CONSTIPATION
The word constipation comes from the Latin word, 'constipatus'; meaning to press together, pack or cram.
Despite daily eliminations many people are not aware that they have 'unfinished business'. Very often the entire length of the colon is packed with old faecal matter, leaving a narrower channel for smaller faeces to pass through. These deposits of hardened matter and mucous may become 2 to 3 cms thick and as hard as plastic or rubber.
Constipation can be the result of a variety of causes. On a mental level it is often related to 'holding on' and 'not wishing to let go of the things we no longer need'. It can also mean fear of change. This can manifest at the physical level as a 'holding on' and the result is constipation and retention of old waste.
At the physical level there is much that can be done to relieve constipation. The obvious priority is an improvement in diet to a whole foods regime, with a minimum of processed food. This will supply the vital bulk, liquid and fibre which must be present for correct bowel function. We can talk more about nutrition, stress management and lifestyle choices during your visit.
Of equal importance is sufficient water. Water is the basis of all bodily functions, so please ensure that 1.5 to 2 litres of filtered water are sipped throughout the day.
One of the main tasks of the colon is the re-absorption of water from the digestive processes. If there is not enough water in the body, it will be drawn from the colon, resulting in dry, hardened faecal matter which will not pass easily.
An accurate description of constipation is 'the retention of waste products in the large intestine beyond the time that is conducive to health' - Dr Isabelle Moser : 'How and When to be Your Own Doctor'.
Colon hydrotherapy helps speed up the transit time of matter moving through the bowel. It helps reduce the overall volume pattern to a healthy level, thereby breaking the cycle of self-poisoning. When the bowel is sluggish, food residues are lying in the colon for far too long, consequently the faecal matter becomes putrified and fermented. The transit time for food to pass through the colon should be approximately 24 hours, but many bowels subjected to the wrong diet, can take three to four days and some, much longer. Toxins then absorb through the bowel wall and become circulated through the body via the blood stream. Toxaemia is a condition in which the blood contains poisonous products, hence we have created a situation called 'auto-toxaemia' or 'self-poisoning' simply by neglecting to move our bowels properly.
It is not unusual for people to have a minimum of 5kgs of rotting, compacted faeces, mucous and even parasite buildups quietly and sneakily residing in their bowel. Imagine that !
During the course of your treatments, you may experience what I call a 'healing response'. Toxic residues, which have been retained in the body, must be released and removed by the tissue systems of the body. As the cleansing begins, it is possible that periodic aches and pains can occur in the areas where the cleansing action is most acute and where waste is loading the elimination system. The most common discomforts are headaches, tiredness and irritability. This is not to say that people must experience the same degree of discomfort as they go through their healing - we all have our individual experiences. Do not expect lifetime accumulations packed into the system to be miraculously flushed out of the organs and tissues in one visit; it will take time. You may experience high and low days; the low days will become less frequent and the good days will begin to come more often when you are faithful to the programme. Taking care of yourself with cleansing, nutrition, rest, exercise and emotional nourishment will help you become more balanced and happy.
Colon hydrotherapy is a profound and powerful healing method available to us today. Given that colon cancer has now become one of the most prevalent health threats that we face, it is important to take care of this vital organ by keeping it clean and healthy.
